I got nothing going on. [ever.] I can check out the market and meet you there if that's ok?
[and just swallow any weirdness he feels about Future!Ken because you know what it's fine. If Ken's chill with this than sure. All he can do is trust the kid.]
[It's been a bit since Shinjiro has gotten here and he's mostly figured things out. Mostly come to accept the whole 'guess I'm alive again' thing. The whole 'guess I'm the second of me' thing. And... maybe not the whole 'Ken' thing.
It's still weird to him. That Ken had seemed... pretty much fine with his existence (though maybe he'd already dealt with it all-- two years later, and possibly already going through a round of this with his prior self here?). So he's going to do his best to just.... Also Be Fine. And if that means the guy randomly needs a cake baked, than, that's what it'll be.
(and he's gonna have to figure out how Ken knows he can bake. Though, actually.... it's probably his shitty prior-self's fault. Yeah. Fuck that guy.)
Anyway, Shinjiro and Mitsuru had commandeered one of the free houses for new arrivals- bare, small, but serviceable. One bedroom that Mitsuru lives in, a kitchen, and Shinjiro's Weird Corner across the main room from the kitchen, identifiable by the way his coat is thrown haphazardly over the spot where he usually sleeps. Sorry, Ken. The senpai are still kind of getting it together.
At least, true to his word, he'd managed to scramble together enough things from the market to bake a cake. Provided the baking powder is what he hopes it is and the temperature of the oven is even and consistent enough and--
[Meanwhile, as soon as Ken made it to the market, all he could do was scratch the back of his head. He was very aware of how this would be awkward for the both of them. Not only did Ken come from a different version of his world, but he also already went through this before. Despite it all, he really wanted to give this another try.
The previous version of him didn't stay for too long where Ken could properly have time to get to know him. Hopefully this time it would be a little different.]
Uh...Aragaki-san?
[He said before making his way up to him. Although, he felt a little bad in doing so. It seemed that he was already deep in thought about what he was going to make. It shouldn't be that difficult to bake a cake, right? All one needed was a few ingredients and it should be okay.
[The voice pulls him from thought, and he tilts his head up slightly as Ken approaches. It's not as weird this time, seeing him older. Still a bit jarring, but only in the way a sudden realization of lost time is.]
...Hey. [His hands retrwat into his coat pockets, but he doesn't make any other motion to pull back or flee. It's a simple enough greeting. They can feel out the corners of their interaction. Just one bit at a time.]
[Although, he wasn't too sure if Ange would be okay with calling him her as a friend. However, he'll just refer to her as such until she might say otherwise. Still, there was some shifting around in his weight as he pondered if he should leave it at that.]
Knowing her, I think she wouldn't want to make it anything special...?
[Especially she was already a tsundere. If he dared try to make it anymore special, he was afraid he might get a scolding from her at how he didn't need to do this. Scratching the side of his head, he really didn't know how to go about this.]
...Although, do you know how to make frosting by scratch?
[...Yeah, about that. He thinks he might have made... icing?? Once? But man, he'd never even had an oven until moving into the dorm, and then quickly moved back out of the dorm so....]
Not. Really. I mean I kind of got an idea, but....
[He just makes home meals ok that's basically it. Aki talks him up, sure, but that's because Akihiko is fucking useless at feeding himself so anything is amazing. But baking can't be too dissimilar from that? Right?
...Between Kotone asking him to try and distinguish types of dry beans visually and Ken hoping he could make a whole-ass birthday cake without a recipe, people sure have a lot of faith in his skills in the kitchen. Maybe this other version of himself was just... better.]
...if we can't figure it out, then someone can probably help. There's probably a bakery or something we could ask. Worst case, melt some chocolate over it and call it a day.
I think that'll be fine? I don't think she'll be the type to mind as long as she gets a cake.
[At least, he hopes so! But in the back of his mind, he was starting to worry that she might not like it and that he was going to regret this. However, it was too late the back out now as he gave a mumble or two.]
...If not, I think we can always ask Kotone-san for help? I think she's better at baking than the both of us.
[When worse comes to worse, always ask the leader for help!]
We can definitely get the cake part down. If it was like... bread or a whole-ass pastry or something I'd tell you to try someone else. So we probably won't have to bother Kotone about it.
[And maybe a part of him is just a bit desperate not to let Ken down yet again.]
Anyway, I think I got everything I need. We can start whenever you want.

[That and he would hate to leave her hanging.]

[And he definitely know the awkward will begin all over again.]

It seems fair since her birthday passed, right?
no subject
[It's a lame response, but what else does he say? Birthday cake makes sense- even if by what Ken said the date had already passed.]
We can write it all down as we go, in case you end up wanting to make another.
[For his... other friends?? He assumes? Because obviously he doesn't want to rely on Shinjiro for it every time right?]
Well, no promises on any fancy decorating, but we can make something for her.

[And yet, in the back of his mind, there was some fear in knowing that they could accidentally destroy the kitchen. Hopefully, it wouldn't be too bad.
With that, he gestured Shinjiro toward the direction of her place.]
